Westmeath Genealogy at Dún na Sí Heritage Centre

The Westmeath Genealogy Centre is located at the Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park in Moate. It is run under the auspices of the Irish Family History Foundation and the Moate Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Éireann. Westmeath Genealogy offers family research for people tracing their Irish ancestors who originated in Westmeath. Dún na Sí is the designated genealogy centre for County Westmeath.

One of the unique attributes of the genealogists at our genealogy centre is their local knowledge. The professional genealogist, Bernie Norris, Has established many contacts over the years in the local parishes that can help to identify the old homesteads or living relatives of clients. Bernie is a graduate of Limerick University and holds a Certificate in History of Family and Genealogical Methods.

Immeasurable numbers have departed Ireland’s shores; many thousands of those were from Co. Westmeath seeking a better life.  If you would like us to help you find your roots in Westmeath, we would be very happy to hear from you. We have some unique records pertaining to the county such as a pre Famine survey of Kilcrumreragh (Rosemount parish), the Moran Manuscripts – extracts relating to Westmeath and its people gleaned from national papers covering a 200 year period, estate records and much more.

We offer the following services:

Consultation Service – for family historians who wish to carry out some research themselves. Our genealogists will point you in the right direction, advising you of all available sources. One hour of our time could save weeks of your time!

Commissioned Research – our genealogists conduct commissioned research. Our local knowledge and contacts are invaluable when tracing your Westmeath Ancestors. Our Preliminary Search entails of 2/3 hours spent tracing your ancestors using all available sources pertaining to County Westmeath, resulting in a Research Report.
