New Missing Friends and Galway Records!
We are delighted to announce the addition of 43,652 new records to search from the Galway centre in Woodford. These records consist of Volumes 1, 2 and 5 of the Boston Pilot’s ‘Missing Friends’ series and Graveyard records for Annaghdown parish dating from 1921-1999. Volume 1 of the Missing Friends dates from 1831-1850, Volume 2 from 1851-1853 and Volume 5 from 1861-1865. The Boston Pilot newspaper published a column entitled ‘Missing Friends’, through which Irish immigrants living in different parts of the USA placed adverts throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in this newspaper looking for missing relatives and friends. Many of the adverts provide detailed information such as the townland or parish, county, date of emigration, port of arrival, occupation and family connections of the missing persons.
